Duane P. “Hogan” Hogan

Duane P. Hogan, age 82, passed away at his home on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.  Duane was born in Erie, PA on September 12, 1941, a son to the late Vern and Gladys (Biers) Hogan.

Duane graduated from Cathedral Preparatory High School in 1959.  Following graduation, he went to DeVry Institute of Technology and received a Bachelor's Degree.  He return to Erie, PA and went to work as a welder at American Sterilizer, a welder at General Electric G.E.,  and at Litton Shipyard he was a Supervisor and Weld Instructor.  He also worked at the Conneaut Docks, building and repairing ships, and Emco Wheaton, where he was a lead person building and repairing ships.   He taught a couple night classes for Welding at Vo-Tech.  Duane also owned Quality Controlled Manufacturing.  He went to work at Custom Engineering as a Plant Manager of fabrication and machining components.  Duane retired from Custom Engineering in 2007.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves and was a member of the American Legion Post 571, member of the V.F.W. Post 470, St. Boniface Usher's Club, Wesleyville Athletic "WA" Club, Star Athletic Club, Siebenbuerger Club, National Club, The Knights of St. George, Knights of St. John, Lake Erie Mustang Owners Club (L.E.M.O.C.), Ludlow Sportsmen's Club, Mustang Club of America (MCA), All-Terrain Vehicle Association (ATVA), Walnut Creek Rifle Club, and Life Member of the National Rifle Association (NRA);

Duane is survived by his loving wife, Fran (Yost) Hogan, who he married on December 9, 2013; his two daughters, Lisa (Ed Golen) Fiorenzo, and Julie (Tom) Rupp;  his stepson, Anthony (Kirstie Orengia) Nelson; his sister, Gail (Ray) Mayer; his nieces and nephews, Jeff (Julie) Mayer, Heather (John) Tate, Kristin (Doug) Chaffee, and Trevor Mayer; his grandchildren, R.J. Fiorenzo, Nicole (Logan) Englert, Matthew Fiorenzo, Keith Fiorenzo, Steven Lukowich, Andrea Kaschak, Mark Lukowich, Rebecca Lukowich, and Jewel Herbstritt; his great grandchildren, Dylan Kaschak, Llewellyn Englert, and Naomi Englert; his great nieces, Ashley Hayes, Amber Hayes, Victoria Mayer, and Madison Chaffee; his great nephews, J.C. Mayer, Vinny (Katelyn) Mayer, and Derek Hayes; his step great niece, Emma Chaffee;  his step great nephew, Chase Chaffee; his great-great nephews, Deighton Hayes, Logan Hall, Nicholas Delay, and Vincent Mayer; and close friend of the family, Don Averill, Jr.  Last but certainly not least, he was Fur-dad to Ziva Hogan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Best Friend, Don Averill, Sr. in 2004.

Duane enjoyed his Mustangs, Car shows and Car Cruises, NASCAR races, Hunting Rifle and Archery, riding his ATV, Playing Golf, going to Averill's Camp, Ludlow Game Feeds, Ya Gotta Regatta, racing his Triumph TT, Riding Snowmobiles, and was a fan of the Buffalo Bills.

A Celebration of Life for Duane will be held in August.  Details to be announced later via Facebook.
