William “Bill” Szalabawka, Sr.
William “Bill” Szalabawka Sr., 73, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 26, 2024, surrounded by his family at UPMC Shadyside.
He was born on February 8, 1951, son of Nicholas Szalabawka and Katherina Rathburn. Bill spent many years as a mechanic and helping friends and family fix anything. He enjoyed dirt track racing, fishing with long-time friend Dan Leone, boating, and being with his family. If you had the pleasure of knowing him, you experienced many jokes and stories. His evenings were spent watching old reruns with his loving pets: Holly, Sonny, Hank, Charlotte, and his little buddy Max.
He was preceded in death by his father, his two sons, Patrick and Billy, and his daughter, Jenny.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lenore “Missy” (Bowles) Szalabawka; three sons, Danny (JoAnn), Keith (Janie), and Mike. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Rachel, Nick, and Sophie, and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no services held. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Askins Cremation Funeral Services, 8354 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16509 to help defray expenses.
