Laurence “Larry” A. Walczak

Laurence “Larry” A. Walczak, age 73, of Erie, left us on Monday, March 20, 2023.

He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 12, 1950.

Larry was a devoted artist and was a graduate of the Commercial Art program at Erie Technical Memorial taught under Joseph Plavcan. He was awarded scholarships to Columbus College of Art & Design, Mercyhurst University and Ohio University.  Spending most of his 50+ year career in New York City, he was at heart an art educator and taught locally at the Martin Luther King Center, The John F. Kennedy Center and the Behrend campus of The Pennsylvania State University.  As a teacher in New York City, he was awarded The NYC Mayor’s Award at Gracie mansion.  Walczak exhibited his art at the Erie Art Museum, The Brooklyn Museum of Art and several international venues. 

He is survived by his brother, Charles Walczak (Dr. Anne), and his sister Mary Rae Sweeney (Gerard), and a large network of friends. 

Burial services will be private and a celebration of his life will be announced in the near future.
