Joan M. Schley
Joan M. Schley, 84, of Erie, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and unconditional love for her family and those whose lives she touched throughout her nursing career.
Born in Erie on September 1, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Roman and Mary (Jurkovic) Tylman.
Joan devoted her professional life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She truly loved her career and the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of her patients. Throughout the years, she worked at Hamot Hospital, Saint Vincent Hospital, and Great Lakes Rehabilitation Hospital, before later serving as a traveling nurse. Her kindness, skill, and compassion earned the respect of both her colleagues and the many patients she cared for.
Joan will be remembered for her caring heart, her strength, her sense of humor, her love of all things gambling and Pittsburgh Steelers, her dedication to helping others, and the love she shared with family and friends. Her legacy of service and compassion will continue to live on in all who knew and loved her.
She is lovingly survived by her brother, Raymond Tylman (friend Linda) of Conneaut, Ohio; her children, Ella Grace Crosby (Robert) of Bradford, Pa, Michael J. Schley (friend Yvonne) of Erie, and Lynn DeKraai of Erie. She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her family was the center of her life, and she treasured the time she spent with them.
In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 29 years, and two grandsons.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Saint James Church, 2635 Buffalo Road, Erie, PA 16510 on Wednesday, August 12, 2026 at 1:00 PM, followed by a Committal Service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
