Jerry L. “Popeye” Sherman, Sr.
Jerry L. “Popeye” Sherman, Sr., of Sparta Township, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
Born in Meadville, PA, on January 31, 1962, he was the son of the late Theodore N. and Pearl L. (McLenahan) Sherman.
Jerry married Sheryl L. Newton on March 16, 1991. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2024. Jerry was employed as a warehouse worker by Troyer Farms, and then he worked for Tryonville Salvage until his illness was diagnosed in 2023.
He is survived by his children, Jerry Sherman, Jr. and his wife Alyssa of Spartansburg, Ryan Sherman of Spartansburg, Mikey Sherman and his wife Amanda of Centerville, Greg Cook of Erie, and Alisha Cook and her companion Justin of Medina, OH; his siblings, Dave Sherman of little Cooley, Gene Sherman and his wife Mary of Centerville, Betty Sherman of Grand Valley, Rab Sherman and his companion Starr of Union City, Ed Sherman and his companion Bonnie of Spartansburg, and Ruth Bond and her husband Dalton of Townville. Jerry is also survived by his grandchildren, Jerry Sherman III, Damyon Cook, Ashlynn Cook, Tyler Sherman, Brantley Sherman, Isabelle Sherman, Graycie Sherman, Madison Hughes, and Owen Hughes.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Cosina; his brothers, Paul, Roy, and Ronnie, and a sister, Shirley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
