Daniel “Dan” Ryan
Daniel “Dan” Ryan, 65, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026. He was born on June 20, 1960, in Albany, New York, to the late John and Anne Ryan.
Dan grew up with a love of sports and competition and excelled as an athlete from an early age. That passion carried him to Lehigh University, where he played football and formed lifelong friendships. After college, Dan built a successful career with YRC Freight, where he spent the majority of his professional life and was respected for his drive, leadership, and strong work ethic.
Dan took great pride in his family and worked hard to provide opportunities for his children early in their lives. He coached Little League, spent countless evenings playing basketball in the driveway, and could often be found cheering from the sidelines at youth sports games.
Some of Dan’s happiest memories were made during summers on Cape Cod, where he loved boogie boarding at Coast Guard Beach and starting the day with a Dunkin’ donut and coffee overlooking Lewis Bay. He was a devoted Boston Red Sox fan, enjoyed country music, and loved spending time on the golf course.
Dan is survived by the love of his life and the mother of his children, Lorraine Ryan of Leawood, Kansas, whose unwavering care, compassion, and loyalty remained constant throughout his life. He is also survived by his three children, Lauren (Jeff) Nordt of Lenexa, Kansas; Greg (Shannon) Ryan of Lenexa, Kansas; and Julia (Travis) Holt of Peculiar, Missouri; and by his five cherished grandchildren, Charlotte, Jackson, Halli, Brooks, and Evelyn. He is also survived by his three brothers, Timothy, Michael, and Jack, and their families.
Dan will be remembered for his competitive spirit, his quick wit, and his great sense of humor. The memories he created with his family, from driveway basketball games to summer days on Cape Cod, will remain a lasting part of the lives he touched and the family who loved him.
